1. Rani Lakshmi Bai


Rani Lakshmi Bai famously known as Rani of Jhansi was one of the bravest leaders, who fought for India’s independence against the British Raj. 2. Neerja Bhanot



Neerja Bhanot was a purser for Pan Am, based in Mumbai, India, who was shot and killed while saving passengers from terrorists on board the hijacked Pan Am Flight 73 on 5 September 1986.


Neerja was killed two days before her twenty-third birthday. Not only had she assured the failure of the hijacking by preventing the plane from getting off the ground, she also saved the lives of hostages in those long hours of incarceration. Indian American astronaut Sunita Williams born as Sunita Pandya Krishna to Indian parents in Massachusetts, has set a record for longest space flight by a woman. 5. Bachendri Pal


Bachendri Pal is an Mountaineer who became the first Indian woman to reach the summit of Mount Everest in 1984.Bachendri Pal belonged to a family of very moderate means. She was born on 24 May 1954 in a village in the Himalayas named Nakuri in Uttarkashi, District of Garhwal, now Uttarakhand, a state in the northern part of India. As a young girl she went on to become the first woman to graduate in her village. Kalpana Chawla was the first Indian-American astronaut and first Indian woman in space. 7. Kiran Bedi



Kiran Bedi is truly an icon of heroism. She is the first Indian woman to join the Indian Police Services thus setting an example for other women .Kiran bedi is an Indian Politician and a retired Police officer who was born in Amritsar on 9 June 1949.She founded two NGO’s namely the Navjyoti Delhi Police Foundation for welfare and preventative policing in 1988 and the India Vision Foundation for prison reformation, drug abuse prevention and child welfare in 1994. Kiran Bedi has been awarded with the Ramon Magsaysay award in 1994 for Government service.

8. Mary Kom




Mangte Chungneijang Mary Kom (born 1 March 1983), known simply as Mary Kom,is a boxer from the Sino-Tibetan speaking Kom tribe in Manipur, representing India. She is a five-time World Amateur Boxing champion, and the only woman boxer to have won a medal in each one of the six world championships.Nicknamed “Magnificent Mary”, she is the only Indian woman boxer to have qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics, competing in the flyweight (51 kg) category and winning the bronze medal.She has also been ranked as No. 4 AIBA World Women’s Ranking Flyweight category.She became the first Indian woman boxer to get a Gold Medal in the Asian Games in 2014 in Incheon, South Korea.Mary Kom is supported by Olympic Gold Quest.

Pilavullakandi Thekkeparambil Usha (born 27 June 1964), popularly known as P. T. Usha, is an Indian track and field athlete from the state of Kerala. P. T. Usha has been associated with Indian athletics since 1979. She is regarded as one of the greatest athletes India has ever produced and is often called the “queen of Indian track and field”.She is nicknamed the Payyoli Express. P.T Usha, who represented India in the 10th Asian Games held at Seoul in 1986, won 4 gold medals and 1 silver medal in the track and field events. She also became the first Indian women to reach the final of an Olympic event by winning her 400m hurdles semi-final. Currently she runs the Usha School of Athletics at Koyilandy in Kerala. P. T. Usha was born in the village of Payyoli, Kozhikode District, Kerala.

10. Shakuntala Devi



Shakuntala Devi (4 November 1929 – 21 April 2013) was an Indian writer and mental calculator, popularly known as the “human computer”.A child prodigy, her talent earned her a place in the 1982 edition of The Guinness Book of World Records.
